3 key learnings from Arab Health 2023

Towards the end of January, some of the Clinitouch team attended Arab Health in Dubai. This event is a hotspot for the world’s top health tech innovations and the perfect place to meet potential partners for our Partner Program.

Our Co-Founders and Comms Director spent four days meeting likeminded people who are passionate about utilising remote patient monitoring technology, as well as understanding key challenges in their local health systems. We spoke to Chris, Noel and Jamie to get their key takeaways from the conference.

The issues around workforce, capacity, and systems overloaded were common themes across all countries

Noel O’Kelly, Medical Director and Co-Founder of Clinitouch, said: “The scale of Arab Health was amazing – it was a truly global event. The diversity of innovations and companies meant there was something for everyone. It was interesting to see how different companies were supporting the innovation in their own countries and looking to export outwards as well.

“Whilst we were there to speak to potential partners looking to take Clinitouch to their local health systems, it was also a brilliant opportunity to see what health tech we could potentially utilise in the future to improve our remote monitoring services. For example, we saw discovered a device that detects brainwaves through your eyes and checks for early signs of Parkinson’s – an amazing example of health tech.

“What I also found interesting was the applicability of remote patient monitoring across clinical areas – not only different conditions, but different stages within each pathway. Digital solutions that improve clinical pathways and boost efficiencies whilst resulting in improved patient outcomes were especially interesting for many of the delegates and exhibitors. The issues around workforce, capacity, and systems being overloaded were common themes across all countries. In other words, the challenges that we are experiencing within the UK around the delivery of healthcare are also being faced across the globe!

“I want to give a special mention to the Department for International Trade and Medilink for taking us along with them. It was great to meet other innovators from across the UK and connect with the other companies we exhibited alongside.”

Whilst this technology is brilliant – it’s important to ensure that patient safety remains a top priority

Chris Barker, CEO of Spirit Health & Co-Founder of Clinitouch, commented: “Arab Health was a massively insightful event – with companies from across the world attending and exhibiting the newest innovations in health, care and digital tech.

One of the most interesting pieces of tech for me was a device that allowed you to record your vital signs though a mobile phone camera. Using this camera, I had my blood pressure, heart rate and pulse rate taken. The future potential in markets with poorer access to traditional devices is huge once the technology is ready!

One of the biggest insights for me was the appetite for remote monitoring technology – it truly is global. From Malta and South Africa, to Pakistan and beyond, the application of Clinitouch is hugely diverse to improve access, patient outcomes and clinician experience. Following the launch of our international reseller program – I’m very excited for the next chapter of Clinitouch."

Technology such as Clinitouch has such an important part to play

Jamie Starr, Comms Director, added: “Arab Health was a fantastic learning experience. It was a real 'melting pot' of people from across the world coming together to discuss and showcase cutting edge health innovation.

“We were also honoured to be invited to the British Embassy to an event celebrating UK life sciences excellence and raising the profile and the strengths of the British healthcare sector. We spoke to people from across entire spectrum of healthcare systems, using different models from government-funded, to private insurance-backed and everything in between.

“What was universal, is that health systems and the people who work in them, are under strain from increasing demands from their population and post-pandemic pressures. Technology such as Clinitouch has such an important part to play.

“Dubai was an impressive location and the Arab Health conference has grown exponentially – becoming a real 'must-do' on the healthcare calendar.”
